Barbarian
winds ...
From the rising sun and the mists of time,
From far-off Asia down to the western shore,
Peoples have come, following the sun line,
In wave upon wave. Their slow conquest covered
The ruins of others who had gone before.
In stone and bronze ages, in iron and steel,
Tools and arms made the weaker kneel.
Marching tribes and imperial armies divided lands
And with their Law, Justice and Knowledge
Built columns and customs on which their history stands.
Cultures, races and their mighty works have shone,
Spread, and reached their heights
Until the next wave covered their bones...
